Just like we talked about honoring your appetite the same goes for knowing when to stop eating. I love bringing in the analogy of children because it is so just built into their bodies. That means it was in yours at some point too, we just need to find it! Children haven't been messed up by our diet American mind-set yet and naturally know when they are full. I have talked to a lot of moms who blame the 300 extra calories per day coming from eating their children's leftovers. Don't just shovel in food, while watching tv or checking your phone. Really experience food and learn when your body cues you to stop. No one likes feeling stuffed, and it's just as unpleasant as being hungry. So why do we keep eating? If you have no idea what feeling satisfied feels like then eat slowly at your next meal. When you think you feel something and can tell you're slowing down wait about 10 minutes and drink 4-8 ounces of water. If at the end of the 10 minutes you are still hungry eat a few more bites and then assess again.
